dylan masters : four months

f o u r   m o n t h s
Clark at 4 months
where oh where has the time gone??  I've been meaning to write this post for weeks now.  Dylan changes soo much week to week so I'm going to try and write about what he was like a few weeks ago, if I can!

we have developed a pretty typical routine over here but I'm sure things will change any day now!  here's what a day in the life usually looks like right now:

daily routine:
6:30-7:00 am - nurse + back to sleep
7:00 am - Clark wakes
8:00 am - breakfast w/ Clark
8:30 am - start laundry (I'm on the one load/day system!)
9:00 am - change Clark + play outside
10:00 am - Dylan wakes (sometimes he sleeps till 11!)
10:30 am - nurse Dyl
11:00 am - playtime
12:00 pm - lunchtime
12:30 pm - Dyl's nap #1
1:00 pm - Clark's nap
1:30 pm - nurse + play w/ Dyl
2:00-2:30 pm - Clark's snack
3:30 pm - nurse + Dyl's nap #2
4:00 pm - Blog / take a nap (if my mom has Clark) / fold laundry
5:30 pm - Mark picks up Dyl & goes to pick up Clark / FREE TIME FOR ME!!!
6:15 pm - dinner + family time + nurse
7:00 pm - boys' bath + bedtime routine
8:00 pm - put boys to bed
8:30 pm - dessert + show w/ Mark
11:00 pm - lights out!

I'd really like to say I've started working out again but I haven't.  I feel like in order to really have time to squeeze in a workout, the only option is to get up before the kids and as much as I'd like to, it just never happens.  I simply can't bring myself to get up when they're both sleeping because those opportunities are few and far between and I love my sleep!!  maybe someday when Dylan isn't still waking up once or twice at night (yes we're back to that!)

four month stats:
weight: 14 lbs. (20th percentile)
length: 24.5 in. (22nd percentile)
head circ: 16 in. (22nd percentile)

he's smaller than his brother at four months but it's weird because even though he's only in the 22nd percentile for length, he's already wearing 6-12 month clothes because he's so long!  also, everyone comments on how big he is, so strange!

f i r s t s

♥ belly laugh - Dylan has been giggling for awhile now but this past month he had a real belly laugh for the first time!  I was holding him while chasing Clark around the house and whenever I would catch up to him, Clark would laugh so hard, which made Dyl laugh so hard!  it lasted for about 10 minutes and it was so so funny!!  Mark filmed it but it was so hard to capture his face when he would laugh because as soon as I turned away from Clark, he would stop laughing!

♥ Memorial Day - we barbecued and swam, per usual, and Dilly dipped his toes in the pool!  he loved it!

♥ blowout at the park - [aside on blowouts: as I think I've mentioned, Dyl has a blowout every. single. day.  this can make getting out of the house quite tricky.  I never set him down anywhere without a burp cloth or thick blanket underneath him unless he's on a mat.  this has proven to be a perfect solution to the stress of not knowing where he will blow out next!  usually I hear him poop if I'm nearby but even then, I'll race to pick him up and take him straight to the changing table and 85% of the time, there is a mess waiting for me.  I've just come to accept it.  it really isn't a diaper issue either, we've tried several brands but for some reason, his poop is pure liquid and there is always sooo much the diaper can't contain it!  it doesn't absorb into the diaper the way pee does, so it's just like sitting in it sloshing around when I open it and I never know what to do without making an even bigger mess!  I wonder if he will poop this way for the rest of his life?!!]  so anyway, we were at the park and Dyl was chillin' in the stroller while I pushed Clark on the swing.  I went to grab Clark a snack when I heard it...Dyl's signature blowout sound!  thankfully, I stuck to my rule and he had an old blanket underneath him.  I carefully took him out of the stroller and laid him on a mat on the grass.  yup, BIG blowout everywhere (but not on my expensive stroller, thank goodness!!)

little stinker
♥ mosquito bite - summertime is really the worst time of the year when you live in Texas.  between the bugs and the humidity, being outside is pretty much a nightmare.  too bad both my boys love the great outdoors!  they did not get this from their mama!  unfortunately, I can only shelter them from sunburns and bug bites for so long.  at least Dyl doesn't know how to scratch yet so I don't think it should itch much.

f a v o r i t e s

♥ the swing - Dylan loves to sit in the swing and stare out the window.  give him something silky to put on his face and he goes straight to sleep.

♥ car rides - Dilly gets sooo excited to go anywhere in the car!  he loves his activity bar and having an up close and personal view of Clark's face :)

no binky for this kid, he loves those two fingers!
♥ grocery shopping - after a nightmare experience at Target with a screaming baby who was refusing to nurse, I now hand over all shopping trips with Dylan to Mark.  he is an angel for Mark, go figure

♥ looking at himself in the mirror

♥ being tickled - I always tease Dylan and say "nee nee nee" and tickle his neck and he gives me the scrunchiest, squishiest grins ever and I'm addicted!!

♥ Clark - how could I leave out Dylan's most favorite person in the whole world??  the feeling is not one-sided...I think Clark loves Dylan even more!! ♥

what he's really thinking

so technically Dylan can start having rice cereal any day now!  CRAZY right?!  we choose to wait until six months to introduce solids for several reasons.  babies' digestive systems still aren't fully functioning at 4 months and they still can't process solid foods as well as breastmilk.  most pediatricians recommend waiting until six months.  another reason is that adding in solids is so much work and such a mess so why would I start that any earlier than I have to?  I wish I could solely breastfeed this kid to puberty!

Dylan is still nursing about every 3 hours and everything's going great.  his thrush comes and goes, we keep his medicine on hand and try to spot treat it whenever we see it appear in his mouth.  so weird because we never had this problem with Clark!  then again, Clark cried more so maybe we actually did!

Clark wanted a sink bath like his brother!

the 4 month sleep regression.  oh how I remember despise you.  just like his brother, Dylan was sleeping through the night regularly until he started to roll over.  Dylan started rolling overnight it seems!  one day he was just kick, kick, kicking himself in circles and the next he was rolling over within seconds of being put down.  I can't believe he's already mobile!!  I already have to start watching out for small toys and other choking hazards left on the floor!  and so it begins...

for several nights shortly after turning four months, Dyl started waking twice to eat (1:30 and 4:30) but lately he's started waking just once around 3:30.  I wouldn't even be complaining but when you get used to sleeping all night again, it's annoying to have to go back to nightly feeds.  Clark totally did the same thing though and I know there's a four month growth spurt.  I also remember at all the milestones Clark would start waking at night because he was practicing (rolling, standing, crawling) in his sleep.  Dylan started rolling earlier than Clark so I'm curious to see when he will be crawling!

another change this month is we came back to our room...but we brought Dylan with us, haha!  Steph came to visit for a few nights and we had her in the nursery / guest room and then when she left, we couldn't bear to leave our room again but Dylan also started waking up so we decided he could room back in with us, just until he's sleeping through again.

p l a y / d e v e l o p m e n t

we have one active little boy on our hands!  do I dare say he's more active than his brother was at this age?  they are alike in many ways but I still don't see it in their looks!  to me, they are night and day, like my sis and I!

besides rolling, Dylan is teething like crazy!!  he will instantly do a death grip on any object (or limb) that comes anywhere within his reach and shove it into his mouth!  as a result, he has actually tried ice-cream as of today because I was trying to eat my Ben & Jerry's with him in my lap and he grabbed a fistful and stuffed it in his mouth!!  haha, okay mostly he just got his hand all sticky but it was hilarious!

Dyl's favorite toys are his crinkle books (well, he has a love/hate relationship with them...sometimes they drive him crazy for some reason), cold teether toys, Sophie the Giraffe, Winkel colorburst toy, and milksnob covers!

one of Dylan's favorite activities (that also used to be Clark's favorite) is when we help him go from laying to sitting to standing, especially in front of a mirror!  he is always so proud of himself and has the biggest smile on his face.  in general, Dilly is such a smiley baby!  we took this baby personality quiz from "Secrets of the Baby Whisperer" that we took with Clark and Dyl is an angel baby.  no surprise there!!  (if you're curious, Clark Wilde got the 'spirited' baby! ;)

so I'm not a morning person.  when my alarm goes off (back in the day when I actually had to set an alarm) I almost never get up right away.  now I have two little birds that wake me up named Clark and Dylan and when they start singing, I always get up right away!  the first thing I see when I wake up is this sweet baby bird, greeting me with the most bashful, excited smile (both my boys are morning people).  no matter how tired I am or how many times I got up with him the night before, I can't wait to pick him up and hold him in my arms and say "good morning my sweetheart!"

Mark found out we were having another little boy before I did and he wrote me a letter from Dylan's POV.  it's crazy how perfectly that letter describes him.  he was made for our family!  we love you to the moon & back my sweet Dylan Masters.

Clark's 2nd Toy Story Birthday!!

this month my baby turned TWO.  we threw him the high-ridinest', rootinest, tootinest birthday bash and celebrated Buzz Lightyear style, to infinity and beyond! ;)

when I began brainstorming ideas for Clark's party, I was originally leaning towards a Moana theme since he's been obsessed with her ever since he first heard, "How Far I'll Go".  but after we introduced him to Toy Story and that became his new thing, I thought it would be so fun to do a Toy Story party!  he absolutely LOVED it!!!  we still have all the decorations up and his favorite word these days is, "BUZZ!"

we turned our house into Toy Story headquarters, complete with Buzz's life size spaceship, the cardboard town buildings from Andy's bedroom, Pin-the-Tail on Bullseye, a race car mat, life-size posters, the actual toys from the movie (they were authentic Disney and exactly like the movie, down to Andy written on the foot!), and a Toy Story themed menu!  it was SO much fun to plan!!!  I think in another life (who knows, maybe in this one someday!) I would have been born to be a party planner because it's right up there with acting as one of my favorite things to do!  I've already got Dylan's first birthday all planned out and he just turned 4 months old! hahaha

we made Clark's birthday a weeklong event and let him open toys every night of his "birthday week".  we would sing him one of the Primary birthday songs each night before bed and he would sprint like crazy to dad's closet where we kept all the presents.  each night he would open a toy from the Toy Story movie (these would later make up the decorations for the party, which is why he got to open them early!)  talk about a lucky break when your mom plans a party with toys as the theme haha!

Clark loved when everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to him and loved seeing Buzz and Woody on his cake :)  we ordered the cake and decorated it ourselves.  vanilla with raspberry filling and french buttercream frosting.  YUM.

Clark had seven girls at his party and two boys (one of which was a baby sibling of one of the girls and the other was a boy he had just met the day before hahaha).  Clark will appreciate this when he gets older...

My good friend Mollie from CT and her son Leif

Clark was SO spoiled this year...besides all of his Toy Story toys he got lots of puzzles (educational ones too!), card games, balls, a squirt gun, a pizza innertube, the coolest HEB shopping cart with a basket full of food, a cape with his name on it, a lawn mower, a baby doll and stroller (his favorite gift by far!!!), astronaut and cowboy costumes from his Grams, a lawn chair, books about aliens and cowboys (lots of people played along with our theme!), a dinosaur inflatable swimming pool, and sooooo many clothes (his entire summer wardrobe!)  next year we are saying NO PRESENTS!

L to R: Hannah, Jonathan, Beverly, Addison, Leif, Clark, Lucy, Rachel, Melanie, Liberty
happy birthday Clark!!  we love you to infinity and beyond 🚀
