Clark's first trip to the beach!

over Easter weekend we had a mini vacation at Uncle Paul & Aunt Tara's beach house!  Clark had his very first dip in the ocean, walk on the beach, and sand in his diaper! :)

it's about a four hour drive to Rockport, much further the 30 minute commute to the beach we were used to in LA.  Clark slept almost the entire way down and when he woke up, we stopped at Dairy Queen for lunch!

once we got to Rockport, we headed to the local HEB for all the ingredients for my dad's ceviche!  Clark loves going to the store and we were all happy to just get out of the car.  we were the first ones to arrive at the beach house (good thing my mom watched where they hid the key, haha) and I let Clark explore all over the house while my parents started dinner.  it totally felt like vacation!

everyone arrived later that night and we ate ceviche, chips and guac, and yummy pineapple!  after that the boys played this game they got addicted to all weekend.  everything was going great until it was time for bed.  Clark woke up while everyone was playing games and because the condo is pretty small, he couldn't go back to sleep since everyone was so loud.  then when everyone else went to sleep, he still couldn't sleep!  he's definitely a fan of routine and his crib so I think he was uncomfortable in the pack 'n play and knew we were somewhere else.  we co-slept with him for I think the second time in his life and we all finally got some sleep!  I think we all got only six hours of sleep but Mark took Clark when he woke up at 6:30 as usual and let me sleep in!  he's the best :)

even though the nights were hard, the days were wonderful.  on Friday we hit the beach!

I was so excited to see Clark's reaction to the ocean.  he is such a water baby but unfortunately, it was too cold to swim.  he loved watching the other kids play and eating snacks on the beach :)

when we weren't at the beach we were relaxing outside of the condo, watching all the boats go in and out.  we loved taking Clark to the point, this big communal area with shady trees and grass for Clark to crawl around on while I tried to relax ;)

we only stayed for a few days and I think that's about the perfect amount of time when you have a baby.  it's really not much of a vacation when no one gets any sleep!  I need my sleep to function so I was happy to head home on Saturday and wake up on Easter Sunday morning in my own bed!

the next trip we take Clark on will be to Mark's family reunion in Colorado come July!  he will be ONE.

clark wilde : ten months

t e n   m o n t h s
this month has been so much fun!  I think this may have been one of my favorite months so far because a) we got our sleep back! b) Clark is finally starting to be a little more independent and c) his little personality is really coming out and he is hilarious!  it's also becoming very apparent that Clark is a total mama's boy.  he is kind of obsessed with me (hehe) and prefers to be in my arms over anyone else's!  sometimes I love it but I also love when my mom takes him for a couple of hours every day so I can do things without my little sidekick permanently attached to my hip :)

Clark learned all sorts of new tricks this month including texting / face-timing (always grandma!), flushing the toilet (especially when I'm on it!), giving high-fives, fake laughing, hiding things in the washer when I'm not looking, and going "vrrroooom" as he races his cars back and forth!  this kid is so full of spunk and adventure and truly living up to his middle name.

people say Clark is very serious and it's true, he is pretty stoic.  but when he's well rested and in a good mood, he gets so giggly and funny!  I'm often surprised to find him burst into laughter when I perform random daily tasks, such as fluffing pillows (he finds this absolutely hilarious!) and doing pilates on the living room floor (he loves trying to hang onto my legs as I move them up and down).  it's never a dull moment with Clark!

some of Clark's favorite things this month include lifting the flaps in books. sucking on the remote control, getting samples from HEB, putting his fingers in my mouth as he falls asleep (weirdo), playing in the dirt, baths in the kitchen sink, playing with the shampoo bottle, banging on everything like a drum, trying to sneak some of the dog's food, sticking his whole hand in my water, and snatching glasses off of anyone's head!

Clark has become pretty adventurous with foods!  he will try just about anything we give him, especially if it's coming off our plate.  here are some new foods he tried this month and whether or not he liked them...

almond butter & jelly - a favorite of Clark's!
Clark's palate at 10 months:

Nutri-grain bars - ðŸ˜‹
Domino's pizza - ðŸ˜‹
almond butter & jelly sandwiches - ðŸ˜‹
blueberry waffles - ðŸ˜‹
raspberries - ðŸ™‚
Cheerios - ðŸ˜‹
corn - ðŸ¤¢
kiwi - ðŸ™‚
meatloaf - ðŸ¤¢
squash - ðŸ¤¢
cottage cheese & fruit - ðŸ™‚
chicken tamales - ðŸ˜‹
platinos - ðŸ˜‹
bananas 'n cream oatmeal - ðŸ˜‹
garlic bread - ðŸ˜‹
salmon & cous cous - ðŸ™‚
sweet potato fries - ðŸ˜‹

I don't even know when it happened but we are pretty much done with baby food!  we still buy organic fruit & veggie pouches for on the go or when we're out of dinner ideas but for the most part, Clark eats what we're eating...

Clark's typical meal schedule at 10 months:

wake + nurse (7:00 am)

breakfast (8:30 am)
Cheerios, yogurt, sliced banana
waffles & berries
oatmeal & toast w/ jam

nurse after morning nap (11:30 am)

lunch (12:30 pm)
almond butter & jelly sandwich
avocado toast, cheese cubes, raisins
leftover dinner from the night before

nurse after afternoon nap (3:30 pm)

dinner (5:30 pm)
meatballs & rice
chicken & mashed potatoes
salmon & couscous
cottage cheese & fruit

nurse before bed (7:30 pm)

we still haven't quite started the weaning process.  some days I skip a nursing session after one of the naps but other days I'll nurse him before a nap if he's having trouble falling asleep.  I think I'm actually going to let Clark wean himself...I'm not sure I'll even be ready when he is but I think that will be my cue that maybe it's time to have another baby :)

sleep has been so great this month!!!  Clark is back to sleeping through the night, around 10-11 hours.  he has started going to bed a little later because his naps have started being pushed back (morning nap at 10 and afternoon nap at 2) so he isn't really tired until closer to 8 pm.  sometimes putting him to bed takes forever if we try and put him down too early!  he will just keep standing up in his crib over and over.  last Friday Mark had two softball games so I had to put Clark to bed alone.  Mark is always the one who puts him to bed because I never have enough patience so I just let him stay up with me until 9:30 when he was so tired he was literally falling over.  I don't think Mark was too happy about that, haha.

I'm amazed every day by how quickly Clark is learning and growing.  I don't really see the growing as much as everyone else, since I'm with him every single day, but that means I get to see all the new things he picks up each and every day.  this month he learned to dance (he shimmies his shoulders and it's adorable!), high five, wave his hand "no" when he doesn't want something (or someone!), hide things all over the house, race his cars around and make sound effects ("brrrr!"), roll his lips with his finger going, "brrr, brrr, brrr, brrr," and get his food out of the pantry!

Clark has some of the funniest little habits and quirks.  wherever he goes, he always has to have something in his hand to carry around with him...chapstick, travel size lotions, floss, the garage door opener...whatever random household object he can find.

his favorite pants are these pajama pants with bugs all over them and he loves to carry these around with him!  every once in awhile he will shake them in the air or just stop and examine all the bugs, touching each one.  it's freaking hilarious!

wearing the bug pants

Clark is already mommy's little helper and loves pitching in with the chores...he empties the dishwasher (usually when they're still dirty), helps Jeeves, our roomba, vacuum (and by "help" I mean laying on top of her and making sure she doesn't get away), but his favorite chore is helping with the laundry!  the other day I went to switch the laundry into the dryer and as I was pulling the clothes out, raisins came flying out with them!  when I wasn't looking, Clark had buried his tiny box of raisins inside!

some of Clark's favorite games this month are hide and seek, "horsey" (bouncing on our knees and moving his voice up and down like "ah ah ah ah ah ah"),  using his books as skates on his hands and sliding around the carpet, pushing things under the couch and pulling them back out (sometimes unsuccessfully), banging on everything like a drum, taking things out of the diaper bag, storage bins, toiletry bags,  etc. and examining them (or carrying them around the house with him, as mentioned above), and pulling his blanky out of the crib and putting it back in.  oh I might add his "blanky" is one of two comfy t-shirts I stole from my sister and wear to bed all the time.  we started giving him my shirts a long time ago to help him nap in his crib instead of on me and still feel like I'm there with him.  he latched onto that idea so well that they have become his special blankies, haha.

Clark, my love, you have stolen my heart and taken over my world and I wouldn't have it any other way.  what kind of meaning would my life have without you??  everything I do is for you now.  you are my every thought, care, worry and daydream.  we are already so close and we have so many amazing years ahead of us.  we are going to be best friends and go on so many adventures together!  you're going to learn your mama has a wild imagination...I can't wait to slay dragons, chase unicorns and catch fairies with you!  you are pure magic and I'm the happiest mama in the world to have you as my son.
