clark wilde : two months

t w o   m o n t h s
I take it all back!  I do NOT want this little babe to grow anymore...he is changing so much every day and I just want him to be my little baby forever.  I am obsessed with his newborn smell and never want it to go away.  his big blue eyes, tiny nose, that tuft of hair and precious little toes...he could not be any more perfect.  every day I fall more and more in love with that little face.  he makes my world go round and I feel so lucky to be his mama.

so many changes this month!  we have a new daily routine and by next month I'm sure it will change again.  I've heard that as soon as you get used to something and think you can count on it being a certain way,  think again!  which makes me really sad because we're currently averaging 7-8 straight hours of sleep a night!  I'll take it while I can!

right now our days go a little something like this:

daily routine:
6:00 am - feed Clark + read "It" (barely started it and already I can't put it down!)
7:00 am - playtime with Clark
8:00 am - get Clark ready + tummy time
8:30 am - feed Clark + breakfast
9:00 am - get ready
10:00 am - feed Clark + blog
10:30 am - gym with dad
11:30 am - stretch + abs workout
12:00 pm - feed Clark + lunch
1:00 pm - shower + get ready
2:00 pm - feed Clark + baby journal
2:30 pm - playtime with Clark
3:00 pm - chores
4:00 pm - feed Clark + tv with dad
5:30 pm - Mark gets home!
6:00 pm - dinner
6:30 pm - feed Clark
7:00 pm - family time
9:00 pm - Clark's bedtime routine
9:30 pm - put Clark to bed + time with Mark
10:00 pm - lights out!

again, the day never goes exactly like that.  sometimes I get none of that done because Clark just wants mama to hold him all day long (I secretly love those days!)  but for the most part, I do most of that throughout the day in some order or another.  that is the ideal day!

two month stats:
weight: 11 lbs 13.2 oz. (30th percentile)
length: 24 in. (90th percentile)
head circ: 15.25 in. (36th percentile)

so basically he's tall and skinny!

f i r s t s

♥ real bath - a little after he turned one month old, Clark got his first real bath!  he peed once his little bum hit the warm water, haha!  we bathe him in our puj tub in the sink and he loves it!  he stares wide eyed through the whole bath and makes cute little noises of excitement.  when we wash his hair he is in heaven!

♥ real smile - (okay I realize I included all of these firsts last month but they weren't the real deal until this month!)  the first time I witnessed Clark smile was so special.  at the 3 am feed I went to get him from his crib and turned on his mobile for him.  once the music started, he turned his head to look and his whole face lit up with the biggest real smile!  even though he wasn't smiling at me, my heart melted.  he has the cutest smile I've ever seen!!

♥ road trip - we took Clark on his first road trip just 4 days after he turned one month old.  we were picked to model for one of my favorite baby brands, milk snob!  Clark was so good on the 8 hour round trip drive to Dallas and he cried for maybe all of 10 minutes the entire time, including at the shoot!  it's a good thing he loves his car seat.  he slept basically the whole day.

life of a baby model
♥ mall trip - my mom and I took Clark to the mall for the first time last week.  he loved the sounds of the mall and they put him right to sleep.  my mom and I were even able to grab some lunch!

♥ sleeping in the nursery - Clark slept in a pack 'n play next to our bed for the first month and I liked it when he was waking every few hours to feed through the night but once he began sleeping in longer stretches, we decided it was time for him to sleep in his own room.  best decision ever!  once Clark started sleeping in his crib, he started sleeping even longer stretches!  for a few weeks he would only wake once during the night, around 3 am, eat and then go right back to sleep.  but this past week he has started sleeping straight through the night!  he goes down like clockwork at 9:30 pm and doesn't wake again until 6 am.  definitely his father's son!

♥ meeting Uncle Sean & Aunt Kara - Clark finally got to meet his first aunt and uncle this month!  Sean and Kara were so excited to meet their first nephew and both of them were great with Clark.  Sean was terrified to hold him at first...my mom went to hand him over casually and Sean freaked out, "I don't know how to hold a baby!"  my mom told him he would be fine and just to hold his head and Sean goes, "I don't have time to learn all of that right now!"  finally, he sat down on the couch and got all prepared to hold Clark.

"look, I'm doing it!"

♥
kara was definitely more comfortable since she has experience with babies.  she was so sweet and always offered to hold Clark even if he was crying.

precious!
♥ meeting Grams & Pops - Mark's parents flew out for Clark's baby blessing and we had a wonderful time with them!  Clark is their 6th grand baby.  wish we lived closer so he could grow up getting to hear all of Pops' stories and eat all of Grams' delicious cooking!

♥ put Clark to bed by myself - I have the best husband ever and since day one Mark has taken on more than his fair share of responsibility.  even though he has to get up and go to work every day, Mark wakes up as often as I have to during the night.  when Clark wakes up to eat, Mark changes his diaper and re-swaddles him before bringing him to me.  then when he's done eating, Mark puts him back to bed.  a few times he hasn't gone back to bed right away and Mark will sit in the rocker with him and rock him to sleep!  he is amazing!  while Sean and Kara were here, Mark stayed up to play games with them a few times (even though I wanted to, I just couldn't stay awake!) and so I put Clark to bed all by myself for the first time!  I was so proud of myself that I could do it without Mark!

♥ real scare - a week ago I had my first terrifying, heart stopping moment as a parent.  I woke up around 4 am thinking I must have heard the baby.  I stopped to listen and heard nothing so I tried to go back to sleep.  but I couldn't.  I had a thought to go and check on the baby but told myself he was fine and I was just worrying.  but the thought wouldn't go away.  I was laying there debating whether to get up or not when I heard a voice in my ear say, "run!"  I immediately shot out of bed and ran to the nursery, terrified of what I might find.  I looked over the crib to see Clark with his little arm over his face, covering his nose.  once I moved it he took a big gasp of air and I just stared at him in shock.  I don't want to think about what might have happened if I had not listened to the promptings of the Holy Ghost.  I'm still kicking myself for not listening the first time and am thankful he did not give up.  so grateful that Heavenly Father is watching over my baby.

f a v o r i t e s

♥ morning walks - this is always a perfect way to start the day.  it's so peaceful on the green belt trail.  I daydream about the day when Clark will ask me a million questions and I can point out the bunnies and lizards that cross our path.  we can go look at the turtles down under the bridge and I can tell him the tale of the billy goats gruff.

♥ having his face caressed - he will close his eyes and relax if you stroke his face, it's adorable!  it's also great for putting him to sleep.

♥ toys that make noise - when Clark is crying and I'm not sure how to calm him, a noisy toy always does the trick!  he adores rattles, his keys, sassy ball and crinkle book (more on that later).

♥ the vacuum - will stop any amount of crying and put him straight to sleep!

♥ rolling lips - another trick to get him to stop crying.  when someone rolls their lips in a high pitched tune, Clark's eyes get so big and he just stares at you in amazement.  it's hilarious!

♥ car seat activity bar - I think Clark loves car rides so much because he is fascinated by his activity bar.  he never tires of staring at all the bright colors and gadgets.  he especially loves looking at himself in the mirror!  hahaha

♥ the swing - another one of our cure all methods.  Clark loves being in his swing and usually goes straight to sleep.  the combination of rocking, music, and a mirror above his head is just too much for him to handle!

♥ sleeping on mama's chest - his all time favorite sleeping position!  mine too :)

family date night!
I fed Clark in public for the first time last weekend!  my arm was dying and the latch took a few tries but I did it!  it was so nice to be able to eat in a restaurant like a normal person.

he ordered milk ;)
on our road trip to Dallas I had to pump and give Clark a bottle once on the way there and once on the way back so we didn't have to stop.  he definitely prefers the boob but took the bottle no problem.

I think that was the last time he's had a bottle and that was almost a month ago.  for some reason, he will not take a bottle any more!  I've pumped a few times since then before going out to run errands with my dad or out with Mark but every time my mom says he didn't want the bottle.  so I've had to dump two full of bottles of breastmilk down the drain which was enough to make me never want to pump again!  so for now I'm unable to leave him for more than 3 hours at a time.

I think it may have been that the bottles were refrigerated and he isn't used to cold milk.  I told my mom to warm them but I'm not sure they were warm enough for him.  it's not really a problem yet but once I do need to leave him for an extended period of time, we'll probably bring out the pump and try  the bottle again.

I actually hate pumping!  for some reason it makes my breasts cramp up and is extremely painful.  it sort of feels like what I imagine a heart attack might feel like!  so I'm not complaining that he hates the bottle.  and being away from him for 3 hours at a time is all I can handle before I miss him like crazy.

his arm!  he flails it about casually while he eats and it kills me!
a funny thing about how I used to feed him...in order to help Clark latch on I would say, "ah," and open my mouth wide like a dentist every single time!  hahaha, I didn't even realize I was doing it until one day my mom said to me, "you always say that...ahh!" and I laughed and realized it was true.  for some reason I really think it helped him latch on in the beginning...before he became a pro :)

our night routine is pretty much the same but now Clark sleeps the entire night without waking!  that means my days start bright and early at 6 am.  It was kind of nice going back to bed after the middle of the night feeding but I definitely prefer a full night's sleep.  now Mark and I wake up at the same time and start our day.

Clark still sleeps in the cutest positions (my favorite is bum in the air) and loves sleeping in people's arms.  here are some more of the many sleep positions of Clark!

p l a y / d e v e l o p m e n t

Clark is definitely living up to his name...he is my "wilde" child :)  he is so active and when he's awake he wants to play.  his favorite game is one I made up called "animal sounds."  it involves his crinkle book which has a different animal for each page.  we lay down side by side and I hold it above his head...

then I go through each animal in the book and talk in different voices describing the animal and the sound he makes and what he likes.  for example, "hi Clark!  I'm an elephant and I'm blue and I like peanuts.  I make this sound *attempt elephant sound*."

he absolutely loves this and will lay staring at the animals all day if I let him!  eventually my arms feel like they're about to fall off (remember I'm holding the book above his head) so the book gradually gets lower and lower and when I can't hold it anymore we move on to something else like...

his play gym!  this is our morning playtime routine...I turn on Disney sing-along songs and we lay on his play mat, looking up at all the animals.  he absolutely loves it and will stare up at the animals in awe, cooing, smiling, kicking and batting them for a good hour.  sometimes I will sing "old mcdonald" and go through all the animals he's looking at.  other times I'm lazy and try to take a little nap, ha (not much sleeping happens).  I also use this time to go to the bathroom, brush my teeth, etc. in the mornings.  hey if he's happy, I take full advantage and get things done!

other games he loves include peek-a-boo,

snapchat filters,

dress-up,

what Clark would look like with red hair hahaha
and superman!!!

my little hero
Clark has sure changed our lives.  literally.  every month things change drastically!  I'm really looking forward to when he starts smiling all the time (especially when he sees me!), hearing him say his first word (mama?!), and of course, take his first steps!  I can't wait to be able to play with him at the park, play make believe games and put on plays for daddy.  I have so many plans for my little buddy but for now, trying to enjoy the current stage and all the learning that is unfolding.  seeing the world through my baby's eyes makes every day an adventure!

child, you are so loved.

weekend on the lake

last weekend Mark and I took Clark on his first overnight trip!  we went and stayed with the Carruth's at their lake house up in Conroe to spend more time with Mark's parents.  Russ and Laura Carruth are some of the nicest people I've ever met.  they made me feel so comfortable and treated us like family.  Laura is a wonderful cook and they have such a beautiful home!

Remi watched baby Clark while Mark and I went exploring out on the lake.  first we went jet-skiing and had a blast!  I wouldn't let Mark go over 20 mph but he enjoyed scaring me, doing doughnuts and getting air over the big waves.  after that we went out on the boat with Russ and Laura and they each took turns waterskiing, wake boarding and wake surfing.  I was content to sit back and be the flag girl...I know I'm such a daredevil.  I honestly just loved seeing Mark so excited, totally in his element.

while we were having a blast on the water, Clark was lounging inside, engaged in rousing conversation.

"how fascinating! do tell me more old chap."
"you don't say!"
"I'm cute? tell me something I don't know..."
Clark slept so well at the Carruth's!  he usually does sleep well after a long day and they also had an air conditioner in our room, the perfect white noise machine!  he was so good the whole trip and loved getting to fall asleep in grams' arms :)

we all had such a good time with family and friends...until the next time!

Clark's baby blessing

on Sunday Mark gave Clark his baby blessing in church with lots of family in attendance.  I was pretty nervous about the whole thing since we hadn't been able to make it to church ever since they changed our meeting time to 8:30 am.  Clark cluster feeds in the mornings since he sleeps so long at night and we just never made it out the door.  but there was no way he could not show up for his own blessing so come hell or high water we were making it that Sunday!  luckily he was sound asleep when we got there but just as I suspected, he immediately started crying once mark took him out of his carseat for the blessing.

he continued to fuss on their way up there but as soon as Mark started the blessing he was silent!  Kara told Sean it was so abrupt she wondered what they had done to him, haha!  it was either the work of God and His angels or the fact that everyone in the circle was swaying Clark up and down "like his own personal water bed," as Sean described.  I like to think it was the former. :)

while Mark was giving Clark his blessing I felt the spirit so strong.  tears came to my eyes as I listened to Mark's voice and the wonderful things he said about Clark's life.  he will be a peacemaker and a joy to others. he will be an example and a leader in our family.  he will be a pillar of strength as he goes through many changes in this world.  I could feel the Lord's love for Clark as Mark spoke and I'm so proud of my son already and all the good he will do in this world and the happiness he will bring others.

my two favorite boys!
after church we headed back to our house for family pictures and lunch.  Mark's father Chip regaled us with his wonderful stories and I loved having our families talk and get to know each other better.  this was the first time both my parents had met his dad since he was still serving his mission in Finland at our wedding!

what a wonderful weekend with family!  we also had a super fun time visiting with Mark's good family friends (and his boss' parents) the Carruth's from PV.  Mark's parents stayed with them since our house was full.  they have a lake house and so we had all kinds of fun playing out on the lake!  more on that next time!
